ABOUT BREAKIN' CONVENTION

Breakin' Convention is an annual festival of hip hop dance theatre which began in 2004. The festival showcases dance companies and artists from around the world, giving a passionate audience the unique opportunity to witness the incredible diversity of Hip Hop Dance Theatre. There is also a focus on education, with a comprehensive workshop programme led by artists from around the world; graff commissions; graff jams; DJ demos and freestyling; film screenings and lecture demonstrations.

A key element of the festival is providing young UK Hip Hop dance theatre companies the opportunity to perform alongside established pioneers of the dance form, exposing them to the wide range of Hip Hop dance theatre from around the world. Many of these young UK artists and companies have since gone on to develop their own work and present it on the international stage.
